Module 6

Introduction

This module focuses on human resources in the HoReCa industry as a critical factor in the design and implementation of sustainability practices at an organisational level. The module examines the impact of the global triple transition (i.e. green, digital and just) on the current and future development of the business environment (with focus on the HoReCa industry) and the labour market. You will gain valuable insights into the in-demand skills of the industry's workforce for a resilient future, the need to keep the workforce skills in line with dynamic changes in the environment (such as legislation, technology and customer behaviour), and appropriate strategies for continuous upskilling and reskilling that will help current/future HoReCa employees to follow the ongoing trends and HoReCa organisations to increase their effectiveness and sustainability.

Objectives

This module aims to:

  • Demonstrate the critical role of workforce skills in ensuring business sustainability and efficiency;
  • Emphasise the importance of providing and benefiting from training and development programmes for the HoReCa workforce;
  • Propose activities and practices to promote the upskilling and reskilling of employees and to maintain a positive, supportive and collaborative working environment.

Learning Outcomes

In Module 6 you will learn to

  • Understand the impact of current macro trends on the labour market and economic climate of the sector, and how this translates into the skills of the HoReCa workforce;
  • Consider the transversal skills of the workforce and the need to regularly update and adapt them;
  • Raise awareness of the need to ensure the wellbeing of employees and consequently increase their motivation to use their skills and attitudes to improve the efficiency of business operations;
  • Adopt policies and practices to improve the availability of skills and organisational working conditions.
